EMDR Intensive Therapy

Sometimes once-a-week therapy isn’t enough.

🌿 What Is an EMDR Intensive?

EMDR Intensives are focused, extended sessions designed to help you move through what’s keeping you stuck, safely and effectively.

Rather than meeting weekly for shorter appointments, intensives offer 2-hour blocks that give you time to settle in, process fully, and leave grounded.

This format allows you to:

  • Move through EMDR phases without feeling rushed

  • Gain momentum in your healing process

  • Experience noticeable progress in less time

  • Integrate insights and relief more deeply

Why Would You Do an EMDR Intensive?

Sometimes, weekly sessions aren’t enough to move through trauma, grief, or anxiety that’s been holding you back.

An EMDR Intensive creates the time and focus needed to process safely and completely — so you can see meaningful change in less time.

Clients often choose this approach because they:

  • Feel ready for deeper, more targeted work

  • Want to accelerate their progress between regular therapy sessions

  • Prefer concentrated healing experiences with clear containment and closure

  • Need a flexible option that fits around demanding schedules

Healing doesn’t have to take forever. Intensives offer a compassionate, structured way to move forward when you feel ready.

🌿 Who Are EMDR Intensives For?

EMDR Intensives are for people who are ready to work through specific experiences, patterns, or symptoms that have been hard to shift in traditional therapy.

They’re a good fit for:

  • Clients already in therapy who want to go deeper on a specific issue

  • Individuals feeling “stuck” in their healing and wanting focused progress

  • People with busy schedules who prefer fewer, longer sessions

  • Those preparing for or recovering from major life transitions

*To participate, you’ll need to have a primary therapist either at Obsidian or elsewhere to ensure ongoing support and continuity of care.

FAQs

  • Through the EMDR Intensive, many people notice that their traumatic memories lose their intensity. Nightmares may fade or stop altogether. Anxiety softens, mood improves, and triggers that once felt overwhelming begin to feel more manageable—or may no longer hold the same power. In short, life begins to feel calmer, safer, and more within your control.

  • Intensives are self-pay only and are not billed to insurance.

  • Yes, clients are required to have a therapist to participate in the intensive due to the depth of the work. As a part of the intensive, our EMDR therapist will reach out to your therapist and speak before and after your work together. If you do not have a therapist, we can provide names to help you find one.

  • The intensives can be both in person and virtual. The in person intensives will take place at our office in Northbrook.
